1. You are amongst the mobile military. We all know the downside of moving with every new posting. What is the upside of transplanting your family every couple of years?
The upside would be the ability to start fresh. I get a new house every couple of years. I may not be able to renovate it, knock a wall or two out and stuff like that, but I like the challenge of trying to make a temporary house a home. I like living somewhere new, discovering little shops and places that I would otherwise have never seen. I meet a lot of people this way. Some become friends for life, others aquaintences and others just substitute people who touch my life for a short while. I don't like being in any one place too long. I swear I have gypsy blood.
2. You are a stay-at-home Mum. Is that by choice and, if so, why?
Yes, I am a SAHM by choice. There are numerous reasons. But the main one would be that we do lead a very transitory lifestyle. Things are in a constant state of flux and routine is something that isn't always a reality. My husband can work some pretty crazy hours. Sometimes he's gone for long streches, others short ones. We move a lot, so my kids are generally "The new kids" every where we go (After our next move my daughter will have been to four schools in four years.) The only thing they have that is constant and stable and never changing is me. My husband doesn't earn a lot of momey but we have every thing we need and no debts. For me to work would be a little silly. It would be to pay for before and after school care for the boys, it would be to buy more stuff we simply cannot lug with us from house to house. Plus, both my husband and I are a little old fashioned. We believe in Mum being at home. That is her place and it's a place I happily fill.
3. What were your life plans before they were knocked for six by a man with a kick-arse smile (and, I'm told, a bod to die for)?
To be completely honest, I didn't have any. I met the man right out of highschool. I was at University when I met him. But I wasn't enjoying it. I don't like Sydney. I am a simple country girl at heart and the idea of me in a court room is just stupid. (I was doing a Law Degree. ) I mean I am excellent at arguing a point, even a losing one, but I am not cut out for the corporate world. He gave me plans and a purpose. It sounds kind of trite and I know three generations of feminists are rolling in their graves right now, but when I met him, I knew I would marry him. I knew I would be extremely to content to be his wife and the mother of his children and that was were my dreams began and ended. Okay end of sap story, next question.
4. If you were a character in a book (or a film), who would it be?
Hmm, who do I choose? I love classic literature. I love old movies. But which character am I most like? I am probably most like Anne of Green Gables. Clutzy, suffering from romantic notions, opinionated, intelligent, a little sassy, hot tempered..... which just about sums up most heroines from classic literature.
